(she/her)

Valentina is a PhD Student in the Neurobiology program at Boston University.

Valentina received both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of the Republic’s Faculty of Sciences in Montevideo, Uruguay. For her undergraduate thesis in Biological Sciences, Valentina researched the variability in electrical signals emitted by South American weakly electric fish and their daily modulations. Valentina then received her master’s in Neuroscience, exploring the interaction between exploration and communication in two species of weakly electric fish. During her master’s degree, Valentina was awarded a graduate research fellowship from the National Research and Innovation Agency (ANII, Uruguay), an Exchange Fellowship Award from the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), and a Student Research Grant from the Animal Behavior Society (ABS). Valentina was also part of the eLife Ambassadors Programme, where she learned to apply open science principles and community building in her scientific work. Valentina joined Dr. Younger’s lab as a PhD student in April 2025.
